Team decision making for complex problems
Abstract:
As a one time chemical kineticist I have a profound belief in the importance of
understanding the nature of the system one is dealing with. We, CoRWM, are leaders in a
decision making team, not only in the context of what we finally recommend to
government but also in terms of how we reach that recommendation, that is, how we
work. There is, thus, not just one decision but many decisions to be made in the context
of two interrelated domains (see below).

Abstract:
At its plenary meeting between 28-30 March, CoRWM completed an important part of its assessment of options for the long-term management of radioactive wastes. This used the technique of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) to explore the performance of the options against a range of criteria. The purpose of using MCDA was to deepen understanding of the relative strengths and weaknesses of the different options, rather than to produce a “right answer” in terms of a best option.
